The Latest Viral Star

Abigael Evans, a 4-year-old Fort Collins, Colorado girl got famous quick for the video of her sobbing about the election spin. Her mom, Elizabeth Evans, posted the 22-second clip to YouTube on Tuesday, October  30, and the video garnered over 10.5 million hits within a week. Numerous media outlets picked up the story.

Abigael was tearfully complaining about how weary she was of Bronco Bama and Mint Romney following an NPR broadcast. Her mother turned off NPR, and put on some Neil Young. She says:

We don’t watch TV or anything in our house, so even just listening to radio and hearing people talk about politics was all she could handle…She always says that Obama is the president and that Mitt Romney is a bad guy who just wants money and wants to be the president.

An Apology

NPR has apologized on one of its blogs for bringing Abigael’s tears, and the local NPR affiliate KUNC sent reporter Grace Hood to visit her. NPR posted:

On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologize to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her. We must confess, the campaign’s gone on long enough for us, too. Let’s just keep telling ourselves: “Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days.”

The Kids Reelect Bronco Bama

Abigael Evansis one of many children who have opinions about the election. Nickelodeon’s Kids Pick the President surveyed more than half a million children, who reelected Bronco Bama.

According to Time, the under-18 age group is more knowledgeable about politics than you might expect, judging from this video by The Fine Brothers, “Kids React To…Politics.” Needless to say, the Big Bird comment didn’t go over well!

Gotta love this comment:

They’re like 5 year olds fighting over a toy. Except the toy is America.

It’s a bit sobering to consider that the dialogue hasn’t improved with age…
